Prince slams gay marriage

Debate errupts over New Yorker interview with the purple one

Prince has said that he does not believe that gay marriage is "right".

The singer told the
New Yorker that he disagreed with a liberal "Democrat" view of life, pointing to gay marriage as something condoned by the party that he disagreed with because it clashed with the teachings of the Bible.

"God came to Earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out," he said. "He was, like, 'Enough'.

"[In the USA] you've got the Republicans, basically they want to live according to [the Bible]. But there's the problem of interpretation, and you've got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn't.

"And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you've got blue, you've got the Democrats, and they're, like, 'You can do whatever you want.' Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right."

However celebrity gossip blog Perezhilton.com refuted the quotes, speaking to a "Prince insider" who called into question the credibility of the interview.

The New Yorker is standing by the piece.

Prince slamming gay marriage? What a joke! He's the picture of straightness isn't he? It's okay to worship men if they're characters from 'The Bible' but it's not cool for two men to form a loving relationship? Eat shit, Squiggle!

If this is true, he's lost potential future revenue...

Prince isn't gay?! Well who knew?"Clashes with bible teachings?!", what a pile of rubbish!! There is nothing wrong with gay marriage...The Bible frowns also upon divorce, but it still takes place.. in fact Prince has gotten divorced TWICE!! So why should he be looking down upon gay marriage, when he doesn't follow the teachings of this bible himself? Stupidity!

Like it states, the credibility of the article is being called into question, so hope he's either been misquoted or the new yorker have got some explaining to do, according that Perez Hilton thing he was grossly misquoted. Hope its not true anyways!! That would be a bummer (if you'll excuse the pun)

'you can do whatever you want' not being right? That's wierd. Not even talking just about gay marriage. Why should the bible tell us anything about life if we don't believe in it. What a knob.

Oh. There's this friend of mine who's a huge prince fan and happily married to his husband. He will be soooo disappointed. Prince, the bible says a lot of things you did not adhere to yourself so don't get all religulous on us now. Like, you would have had sex only with the one person you married and stayed with her all your life. According to the bible you will burn in hell for being the naughty sexdwarf that you are.

Since he hasn't released anything worth listening to for the last 15 years, who gives a fuck what he thinks!

The Gold Experience was only 13 years ago nickster, that's an awesome album. But yeah basically Prince has always been a bit of an arse, but since he became a Jehovah's Witness he has been outdoing himself. If these comments are true it's a bit sad given that in his heyday he used to play on the ambiguity surrounding his sexuality and he was always known to be extremely sexually adventurous. He also has a fairly significant gay following. I hope Perez is right ... Prince remains one of the greatest live performers you will ever see though and he's really very underrated as a guitarist. So anyone claiming he's not musically relevant anymore needs to catch him live.

Why are the gays upset by Prince's comments? Marriage is an institution created by God and a belief system founded in Bibical teachings. If you do subscribe to the teachings why do they seek a marriage covenant. I don't care what gays do and I agree sin is sin and I'm not pointing fingers but by the bibical definition of marriage can't happen for gays, so just fight for civil union or contractual partnerships. Just leave marriage out of it.

I just read the New Yorker's so-called article...Having been a long-time fan of Prince...it doesn't sound anything like him. What it sounds like is a bored "journalism student" who was forced to interview Prince when she'd have much rather been interviewing The Strokes or someone equally 'relevant' in her mind...perhaps in future The New Yorker will work at accuracy instead of sensationalism...oh wait, then it would be journalism.

I agree he is underrated as a guitarist, with that said.SHAME ON YOU PRINCE!How dare you NOW in your golden yrs use the bible as a means to "suddenly" be anti-gay,anti everything?!Wow U sure have changed ur tune(should write a song about ur personal hypocracy!).Where was your bible when U were behaving lasciviously since 1977?Divorce-U 2X,Dressing in G-Strings in nightclubs, encouraging youth via ur behavior&music,Ripping off unpaid workers? You weren't so republican nor anti anything until U hooked up with Larry Graham..when i saw this back in mid 90s I knew ur life would change negatively and I was right. As for his music of past 15 yrs-Musicology tour/cd was a smash..but his behavior at this particular concert going forward is dispicable-passing out JW flyers to the crowds and behaving so virginal was nauseating in knowing his entire career leading up to his antics of past 9 yrs of which included shutting up both wives-wow U are pathetic and after musicology concert-I for one walked away permanently. But I will not sit idlely by as U freak profess BS!Where was God when U wanted a happy marriage and children?Where was ur JW bible then?U will always be alone-Deservedly so.Ur a phony,a freak and very weak

What is he saying? One less male chromosome in his DNA and Prince would have turned out to be a girl.
